Q: What is the best way to describe how the X-18 drives?
A: The X-18 drives like a mid-engine sports car or a two-seater quad. The car doesn’t require turning brakes to make it turn on a dime. Please read our customer testimonials for further descriptions on how the vehicles handle: www.predator-offroad.com/testimonials.html

Q: Can I purchase the car with Fox or King Shocks?
A: Any customer can ask the dealer they are purchasing the car from to install King or Fox Shocks. This will cost approximately $4,500.00, plus installation. The process requires 2-1/2” bypass shocks and 2" coilovers on the rear, and on the front, 2” coilovers and bypass shocks.

Q: What options are available for the X-18?
A: Please look on our options pages: www.predatoroffroadparts.com

[Top]

Q: Do you make a turbo upgrade for the X-18?
A: We will start offering a turbo upgrade on of July 1, 2009 for export, or to qualified racing teams only. The turbo will increase the horsepower to approximately 230 at 8lbs of boost.

The turbo kit includes the following:
   • Turbo
     • Exhaust manifold
     • Intake manifold
     • CVT Hi performance
     • K&N Air filter
This kit can be installed by the end user in 3 hours or less, and will fit to the existing muffler on the X-18 or X-18S.

Q: What engine performance upgrades come standard on the X-18 or X-18S?
A: The standard engine on an X-18 or X-18S is a GM 2.2 liter Ecotec. These engines are assembled and built by Custom Built Motors and are assembled standard with forged racing pistons and are built to conform with GM 2.2 liter engine factory specifications, as well as EPA and CARB standards.

All engines have a forty hour or 90 day warranty whichever comes first, provided you are not racing the car.

Q: Where can I purchase parts for my X-18 or X-18S?
A: All official Predator Motor Corporation parts can be purchased from your local X-18 authorized dealer. However, most after market buggy parts houses listed on our web site have similar parts which may be used as replacement parts on all X-18 and X-18S vehicles. Please call Predator Motor Corporation for a list of parts which may be replaced with after market parts, or with any questions concerning X-18 parts.

Q: What is the warranty on the transmission and how does it work?
A: The warranty is 12 months and the transmission is built to handle 250 HP. It has an .091 differential and an 8-to-1 reduction box. The shifting is done by a CVT, just like a snow mobile. The belt is Kevlar and is rated at 250HP and 100 hours. The belt cost is $130.00 MSRP.

[Top]

Q: How long do the belts last?
A: We have customers that have had the same belt for 3 years, without breaking. We had one customer, just learning to drive, brake a belt in one day. The belt limitation is 250HP and the heat limit for the rubber is 320 degrees, under normal operating conditions. With hard riding, the belt will run at approximately 120 to 180 degrees.

If you understand how to drive an off-road car and do not jump it through the air and land the car under the full load horsepower of the vehicle you will not over heat the belt. If you do, something has got to give (this is the number one cause for belt failure). Jumping and landing the car under full power may result in belt failure. We suggest that you do not jump your car in the first place. However if you do have a spare belt, in 3-5 minutes, you are on your way.

If you have a manual transmission such as VW or Mendeola, and you jump the car and land under full load and horsepower you will break the differential, the nose cone or worse. This will result in you trailering the vehicle and a bill for $3.000.00, or more.

[Top]

Q: Can I purchase an X-18S with a manual transmission?
A: We offer the car with a VW rebuilt bus transmission or a new Mendeola transmission on a special order only basis. Please call the factory for details. These vehicles are built to order only and will take 12 -16 weeks to deliver. These cars are designed to be rear engine not mid engine.

[Top]

Q: Can I make my car go faster than 70 MPH?
A: An aftermarket CVT distributor makes a CVT that will allow the car to travel in excess of 70 MPH. However we do not recommend that the vehicle be driven in excess of 70 MPH. It should be noted that million dollar Trophy trucks, driven by professionals, only travel 80 to 110 MPH. Furthermore, these drivers assume the risk of serious injury and death. Predator Motor Corporation vehicles have a short wheel base, and it is not advisable to run past 70 MPH. If an after market clutch is installed, THE FACTORY WARRANTY IS VOID. A driver should only drive our car at speeds that are safe relative to the conditions.

Q: Does Predator Motor Corporation or its authorized dealerships build on or off-road race cars?
A: Neither Predator Motor Corporation nor its authorized dealerships build on or off-road race cars. Predator Motor Corporation has obtained a certification that its cars meet certain minimum standards of SCORE. However, this certification does not mean that it is safe to race Predator Motor Corporation’s cars, nor does the certification mean that Predator Motor Corporation assumes any liability when its vehicles are being used for racing, on or off-road. Off-road driving and racing is dangerous and can result in serious injury or death. Driving very expensive Trophy trucks or off-road cars built by professional race car builders is inherently dangerous. All cars do not come certified, they are only built to the certification standards of SCORE.

Driving a stock or modified X-18 or X-18S could result in death or serious injury, even for experienced drivers. Any person planning on driving a Predator Motor Corporation vehicle should enroll in a professional off-road driving school before driving the vehicle. Common sense and an understanding of a off-road driving is the best way to avoid getting hurt, ask any professional driver.

Q: Can a 2008 X-18 be modified to race in SCORE or other races such as BITD, MDR, MORE, SNORE?
A: No. The chassis is .083 chromoly, SCORE requires a .120 wall per its specifications. We are aware of others racing the vehicles in other venues which do not require SCORE specifications.

For a SCORE certifiable chassis you will need to purchase an X-18S that is constructed of .120 chromoly per SCORE minimal specifications.

[Top]

Q: Is my warranty void if I race my car?
A: Yes. The car has a 12 month warranty on the chassis and the arms, front and rear. These are warranted by the manufacturer to be free from defects. These parts are not warranted if the vehicle has been used for purposes other than normal driving conditions. Racing does not constitute normal conditions. The car has a bumper to bumper warranty of 90 days on all components based upon normal usage, which does not include racing.

[Top]

Q: If I decide to get my car SCORE certified, can Predator Motor Corporation handle that for me?
A: No. We do not certify cars for racing, on or off-road. Our lawyers won’t let us do it.

[Top]

Q: If I decide I want to have my car SCORE certified what do I do?
A: You should call SCORE. However, as we understand it, you will need to have the following to race in a Class 4:
     • Fuel cell
     • Fire wall and bracing.
     • Aluminum roof
     • Three rear lights all DOT approved. One orange running light and two red run / brake lights.

If you elect to race in SCORE Class 4 you will need to certify both your car and the engine. Approximate cost from SCORE is $450.00 (engine $200.00) and (chassis $250.00). Please note that this class has a sealed motor.

You will need to remove the bypass shocks and run an additional pressurized shock and/or just the coil-over as well.

[Top]

Q: What are the rules for similar cars for SCORE to make them race legal?
A: The answer is: RACING IS DANGEROUS. You should consult a professional race car builder concerning modifications you need to make to any car to make it race worthy. Visit SCORE’s website for their requirements.
